We've been working on all the preps for M's foundation. Having finished the framing, we discovered that either the frames were too low or the ground was too high - take your pick, but it wouldn't work as it was. We've still got to put down 2" rigid insulation, dirt to keep the insulation from floating in the concrete, a vapor barrier, and the mesh, and still have room for the concrete (that part's important.)
So...we had to dig the whole bloody thing down several inches. Here's a hint for anyone who's ever thought of actually building an underground house: Regular above-ground wood-frame construction is really quite nice.
We got about halfway through the digging today, and just both ran out of steam. So tomorrow morning at the crack of doom - comes the crack of doom. We're off to dig again.
Ghost kept watch for us while we worked. We appreciated the effort.
M also put the final touch on the well's pumphouse. We both said, right after we built it, "It looks like there should be a staircase inside." A neighbor sent away for the sign and gave it to M on his birthday. Click for embiggenment.

Well, you may have the blues, but humor isn't in short supply in the desert. =)
Here is the PNW- big city, where computers crash hard and important programs need to be found and restore, humor is our saving grace. Please send some desert humor our way, because we've used up most of our reserves =/
