He said he cannot afford a lawyer at present because his campaign account has been depleted....when raiding that account for lawyers' fees was one of the "violations" he was being gigged for.
I predict he's got a great future as a czar in some not-so-future administration. Probably overseeing executive department finances...

As I like to say about Congressional Ethics Panels and internal disciplinary committees, it is a lot like trying to clean something with a dirty sponge.
And as someone pointed out, he doesn't actually _need_ a lawyer - there's no judge involved, and no serious repercussions other than being not recognized by Congress.
My husband's comment was that he wants to stall it off until the new Congress, then lay off the blame on those "racist Republicans". Can't really do that with the Dems...not that they aren't racist, but they're _his_ party, after all. He'd best not bite the hand that might still feed him...
