A sense of humor is definitely required here...

But it's always important to consider that the other guy might think his point of view is at least as valid as yours - especially when you're at war and breaking each other's stuff...

I LOVE that! Especially the line about Americans running so fast they forgot to take their culture with them.

And all these years, I never knew it was Canadians who burned the White House. Off to Wikipedia ...

I'm not sure there was a lot of practical difference between Brits and Canadians back then - except the ones who spoke French, of course. So I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the Brits staged their invasion of Washington from Canada, and now some Canucks are taking credit for it.

Whoever burned it, and for whatever reason, the bad part is that someone built it again... :(

After it burned it was painted white to cover the burns and smoke damage, and the White House has been whitewashing stuff that happens there ever since.

ML,

We did our part!

Thanks for the link back Joel. FYI I have a series of Bi-Centennial posts scheduled. One can't let an important anniversary such as this go un marked.

I needed a grin this afternoon; thanks Joel. :-)

It was actually British Regulars staged out of Canada. They were troops fresh from fighting Napoleon. There may have been a few Canadians along to do the laundry and dig latrines.

Just like the British, two hundred years too early!
