I don't spend a lot of time admiring McDonalds' lawyers, ...

But when you got it, you got it.
San Francisco's ban on giving away a free toy with a child's meal containing a certain number of calories, salt, and other particulars is set to kick in [today]. McDonald's, the clear target of the ban, had a year to figure out a way to change its business practices. Seems like they used the time wisely, reports the SF Examiner.

Heh. It seems that while it's now illegal to give a kid a toy in San Francisco if it comes with burger and fries, it's still okay to sell it for ten cents and donate the money to charity. It further seems that McD's waited until the last possible moment to announce the policy. Who'd a thunk that SF city politicians wouldn't see that coming?

Though the SF Examiner's article/editorial is strongly in favor of nuking McDonald's from orbit just to be sure and letting it burn in its own trans-fats, it does contain one of the best lines I think I've ever seen in newsprint:
Count this city's lawmakers as the latest among the billions and billions served.

H/T to Balko.

I have never really understood the McDonald's derangement syndrome. Sure, I understand they are far left crazies who hate successful capitalism so they pick the top of each field (like Walmart or McDonalds) and heap they hate from their little hate filled lives on them. But this mindset is so foriegn to me that, as I said, I don't really understand the McDonald's or Wlamart derangement syndrome. I don't like artichokes so I don't eat them. Simple, right? But I don't spend the rest of my life trying to destroy them. What goes through the mind of a politician in a city that is overtaxed and in a state that is overtaxed and going bankrupt that they can waste even one seocnd on something like this???

Valid point, Carl.

Once again, the private sector proves itself far superior in intelligence to the drooling public sector nannies.

My mother said artichokes were simply an excuse to eat mayonnaise or butter in unlimited quantities. I don't like artichokes OR mayonnaise, and I don't need any excuse at all to eat butter - though my fresh, home made bread works just fine if I want one. :)

But everyone else is perfectly free to eat their butter however they please. :)

What politicians of any stripe, anywhere use for "minds" has always been a mystery to me. And that's not limited to California, by any means.
