Could somebody tell me?

I'm reading this article about a "domestic terrorism" meeting at President Obama's Art Museum, Impregnable Fortress and Snack Shop. And the article contains the following sentence:
It's a delicate balance, as the violent extremism that has erupted across the U.S. in the past few years has been motivated by an ideology, whether a violent interpretation of Islam or white supremacist beliefs.
And I got to wondering - where's all this violent extremism going on? Are you people sneaking out and committing acts of violent extremism after I've gone to bed, or what? Because, seriously, I'm trying to think of stories I've read lately, y'know, of mayhem and bloodshed spread by Muslims and "white supremacists", and while I can think of a few it's not exactly what I'd call an "eruption." Or even much of a trickle. So wherefore all the official panic?

Or is this just a new "hobgoblin?"

Kind of a silly question, that last...

It's called keeping the sheeple alarmed so they'll readily give up what's rest of their freedom for protection from the boogie man. Sadly, it works...

Oh, there's violent chatter about overthrowing the government right there in your blogroll. If the people writing it live in flyover country and are male Caucasians, then it is by definition "white supremacist", QED.

As the natterbots and agents provocateur at the Threeper sites try to top each other in the virility of their "Let's You And Him Fight" chest-thumping, somebody's going to be talking their way into a conspiracy charge here before too long, mark my words.

It will get much worse. The classic Democrat election technique is to divide and conquer. Whether it be playing the race card or the rich vs the poor. This year they will pull out all the stops. The far left sees an actual chance to fundamentally change America if they can reelect Obama and they want it so bad they can taste it. An Obama not worried about running for reelection will do far more harm in four years then he did in the last 3+ years. OWS is the Democrat brown shirt army and they have just begun to fight. It will get much worse. In a month or two Morris Dees will come back from his vaction home in the Cayman islands and start accusing the tea party of being white supremacists and everything the Republicans say will be "code" for racism. It is going to be far worse very soon.

Tam, I understand that the Threepers talketytalktalk about this and that. I did too, when I was 20. In the current environment, I wouldn't be surprised by some martyrs in the near future. But you and I know that talk does not a "violent extremist" make - unless you're a government type looking for hobgoblins, I guess. On the Planet IntelliSensiReasonable, it requires some measure of actual violence.

So is this it? Are the Hutaree really the very model of a modern domestic terrorist organization? Is that truly the best our protectors can come up with? Because, y'know, if I'm going to be afraid of somebody I'd prefer it be someone less clueless and pathetic than myself. That's not an outrageously high bar to clear, but so far I'm just not seeing it.

Anon 9:56, while I agree the prospect of a second Obama term is somewhat sobering, and for the reasons you outlined, it's not alone on my list of political things I wish wouldn't happen. A Gingrich presidency, for example...

Joel,

"But you and I know that talk does not a "violent extremist" make - "

You know that and I know that, but some prep school Northeastern briefer at DOJ may not know that. ;)

Yeah. Any sane person knows that you can't make societal change through violence. It's got to come through spreading ideas, voluntarily. The Gunvermin don't understand that, and so they're always nosing around peaceful blogs. Good. Every moment they're reading these here blogs is a moment in which they're not harassing decent folk in person. Hell, who knows, some of them might even start thinking. Not that they should be trusted, even after they convert.

It was a planning meeting, not a discussion. I believe they were planning the domestic terrorism events they want to have occur as build up to the presidential election. Something big, juicy maybe enough to stop elections and implement martial law. The only reason a democrat/communist would meet with law enforcemnt would be to plan continuing oppression.

Yup, just like Bush & Cheney cracked down and declared martial law to prevent the elections. And Clinton before that.

The only reason people on the 'web didn't accuse Bush Sr. of plotting to do it is because there wasn't a Worldwide Web yet.

Thank you.... how many times must this be recycled before it fizzles out?

Kinda like AB45 or whatever that I STILL get emails warning me will be passed any day now and my gun rights are gone.

Sigh. As if things aren't bad enough and the paranoid just need to stir the pot.

They behave as though they have a guilty conscience. They know in their hearts that if their subjects knew the full measure of their deceit and corruption it would indeed provoke this very 'extremism' they go on about.
