One Useful Thing...

One useful thing we did get done over the past couple of days was coat M's pantry/powershed with surface-bonding cement. Four hours to do the inside, and we wondered where the time went. Five hours to do the outside, and it went on forever and I'm still a little lame. Oy. It's been hot lately. But the building is completely done except for the roofing, and then covering the whole thing with earth which I don't think will happen till the house shell is up. Very nice.

Joel,
This cement you folks put on the pantry/powershed is it waterproof or water resistant ?

I am considering building a cistern under the house I would like to build and am collecting ideas on the finish for the interior of the cistern. Which would have to be waterproof not resistant.

Oh and about those "other humans" .... non illegitimi carborundum.

instead of building a cistern, take a look at

http://www.watertanks.com/category/6/

You can order a tank as big as you want, it won't be as heavy as sin, and I suspect the cost is competitive with the actual cost of concrete, rebar, and waterproofing the homemade cistern.

Good luck

It's supposed to be waterPROOF. Originally designed for making concrete water tanks, in fact. The specific product we used was called "QuikWall", made by Quikrete. You can google it for more info.

Thanks to both of you for the responses.

Off to do some reading on finishes and tanks.
